Movie: The Watchmen

The WatchmenIt’s been quite awhile since I’ve done a movie review. Have watched tons, and originally planed on giving a little blurb about all the movies I watch; as it usually helps recap the story; and keeps it in my memory bank for further viewing or just remembering the key points of the film.

The Watchmen story is based on the Graphic Novel of the same title. I haven’t read it myself but plan on finding a copy now. It’s about an ex-superhero who gets murdered; and unraveled a very gripping, tale about super-hero’s, super-villains; although indirectly and discrete for the beginning part of the film. It rolls out a very good, not too far fetched Superhero tale. I’m not going to travel too deep into the descriptive side of things, and leave you with just that.

For a movie that span’s almost 3 hours. I was glued to my seat, with my eyes never leaving the set. It’s a really enjoyable film, and is a great addition if not, a very good stepping stone for superhero style movies to start popping up in the theaters. (Not your major big budget superhero films either.) If you’re into watching those movies; that are not like the rest. This is another on of those films you want to see. This film is great, although I’m super biased; and I love almost every movie I sit down and watch. It gets 9/10 on the vedgiee scale. Leaves me wondering.. “How do you make a movie 3 hours long, and keep the viewer in there seat?” I’m floored that this was able to do it, I thought for sure I would be bored, and annoyed by a slowly moving story line. But this most definitely works.

The Power of Assets

Usually when starting a big project, collecting assets, and compiling everything you may need helps a lot. Down the road you never know when you’re going to need that hi-res logo, or the special picture or image to set it off.

The biggest, and most common issue with this is the availability of the assets. Many graphic designers, and artists don’t like to release such work for others to use. To get the full editable file from the original artist, for re-publication is scarce. I don’t blame them; I don’t want someone hacking my work apart.

Its the great designer and developer feud of the ages. In order for the final product or project to meet its full and true potential; assets are greatly needed. There’s only so much you can do with that small jpeg, and usually the outcome is a very dull; and badley represented piece of digital art.

Ch-Check It Out..

Acer 23" Monitor, GBM Joomla ProjectThe Beastie Boys; is one of my favorite group of artists to work too; it’s all about the flow. Its been a few days again since the last blog posting. I’ve had a bunch of stuff I’ve wanted to rant on about, and post away. First and foremost, I’m making great lead way on the Grand Bend Motorplex project. Last time I spoke of it, I was still wondering if I would be best off restarting with full launcher. My conscious yet again got the best of me, and I did not. Better off this way as I’m learning a lot about the configuration of everything, seems to be paying off with additional knowledge.

I’ve come to the point were almost all of the modules I plan on using for the grunt of showcasing all the information are in place, and configured. Now I plan on tackling the part of gathering all the old information from the old site, and continue working on the overall theme, and look of the site. It needs a lot more sha-bang! ;) I’ve attached a little sample screen capture of it, as of now. The final product should look a ton different.

Brings me around to some new Tech here at ZB-Designs. I’ve upgraded my monitor on my home/work desktop. I’m starting to do a lot more heavy graphic and multitasking work and thought it would be a good asset to have, and keep me glued to the chair a little more while I get some lead way on the GBM project. It’s an Acer 23′ Wide-screen, 1080p monitor.  Touchscreen buttons, built in speakers, If I say so myself it is quite the beast. In the past I’ve bashed Acer and there products to my hearts content, but this has really made me realize. They have some outstanding, cheap products. Comparable monitors are up near the $400 to $500 range, and this thing is around $200 on almost all showroom floors. If you’re in the market for a monitor, this is the budget powerhouse that’s perfect. I’m extremely pleased, hopefully I won’t sit here too long.

Anyways; it’s time to sleep, rest my eyes, and get ready to do some crazy work  again in the days to come. Tomorrows another day; and I think it might rain too.

Tons of Extra Papers

The blogs getting left in the dark again. Keep telling myself I’m going to continue and post more and more of what I’m doing. Then I realize that I’m not doing much at all. More; and more slacking. I’m slowly starting to bust the curve, and build up some pace. I can’t afford to slack anymore at all.

Working on a rather large project. An overhaul and complete re-design of Grand Bend Motorplex’s website. I’ve referenced it in the past, but have never gotten a real good move on it until now. Wanna take a quick minute how I’m documenting this, and to explain to myself why I have so much damn paper work everywhere.

  1. General Scribble Layout Mock-up
  2. 3 Rough Copies and a final copy of a Site Tree, generated with FreeMind.
  3. About 4 post-it notes filled with log-ins and different key information.
  4. a very vague reference book of the theme I’m using. (I know; I’m a noob.)
  5. Copy of All my Module Positions and of the Site for Reference.
  6. ..And Finally another copy of the module positions almost transparent to the page so I can scribble.

Why? This is a really large content managed site. I’ve never done anything this large; although I do believe I’m very capable. There will be problems; and my big green folder shall not be far.

Now, I’ve gotten the theme in place. The module’s components are all installed. ..And I’m starting to realize I really should have used the full theme script launcher built onto the full Joomla install. I’ve done everything manually on the basic Joomla starter content, leaving a ton of setting up of everything. It was a bad idea back when I tried to manage the Canadian Snowcross site; and it seems like a bad idea again now. Hopefully by morning I’ll figure out my plan on that one.

Live Writer, & Other General Stuff

windows live writer I’ve just stumbled across, Windows Live Writer. Another small program built into windows. Used for updating and posting to various content management scripts and blogs, while still in Windows Live Mail and the Vista Experience.

This is really neat actually. Using XML-RPC It acquires all the scripting and style sheets from my blog. and imports them all into the writer for viewing before even posting. Shows a neat Preview of the full blog, and post. Even the source code for the article. Although it doesn’t seem to accommodate all of the plug-ins I’m using for my site. It does function with all the normal plug-ins. Gallery, Video everything else works. (NEXTGen Gallery, Does not. :( )

I’ll try this out for the next few blog posts, see how it rolls. Not much new at ZB-D other than more and more random work. It’s only been the first week of some-what running CMSports.com during part of the weekday; and although it hasn’t been much yet. I’m sure the coming weeks will prove that it will be quite a task. I have to step it up a lot for the situation. I’ve got enough on my plate as it is.

The new tablet is already showing it’s potential in the accessibility and the overall functionality while navigating and working in Photoshop and Illustrator. I hope it can really further and expand some of the stuff I’ve been sending out in the past. Oh yea, I’ve started a Facebook fan-page for zB-Designs. Although there isn’t much up there yet and it’s linking to the under construction flash page. Fan it, and watch for updates. The full site should be launching soon; and you and your inspiring business could create a very unique adventure.
